Organisations

Principal

Organisations that hold an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) are eligible to apply to become a Principal Member of the Stockbrokers And Financial Advisers Association. The organisation may be either a Market Participant or a Non Market Participant. 

Affiliate

Affiliate Membership is open to organisations that provide ancillary services to the industry such as education, legal, accounting, technology, training, research and information services.

Individuals

Honorary Life Fellow (FSAFAA)

In accordance with the Stockbrokers And Financial Advisers Association Rules, the Association's Board may appoint a single Honorary Life Fellow each year.

The Honorary Life Fellows of the Stockbrokers And Financial Advisers Association are:

  • Maurice Newman
  • Brendan Egan
  • Richard Humphry
  • Trevor Lands
  • Ronald Hay
  • Russell McCrory
  • Robert Thomas AM
  • David Horsfield
  • Murray McGill

By Invitation Only

Practitioner

SAFAA offers Practitioner Membership to finance professionals who are authorised to provide financial advice under a financial services licencee.

Practitioner members must:

  • Demonstrate they are a fit and proper person by continuously complying with the SAFAA Good Fame and Character guidelines.
  • Have met SAFAA's knowledge and skills requirements as required in the application.
  • Commit to meet SAFAA's Continuing Professional Development requirements.
  • Abide by SAFAA's Code of Conduct
  • Agree to be subject to SAFAA's Conduct Review & Disciplinary System

There are two Practitioner Membership categories:

Master (MSAFAA)

To be eligible, you must either:

- be a Responsible Executive (or have been an Affiliate of the ASX)
 OR
- have at least 7 years experience in total within the last 10 years in an advising, operations or management capacity with one or more Market Participants.

Member (MeSAFAA)

To be eligible, you must have:

- Employment experience of up to 7 years in an advising, operations or management capacity within the stockbroking and financial advisory industry

Affiliate (AfSAFAA)

This category is open to applicants who do not qualify for Practitioner Membership, yet whose employment or business is significantly engaged with the stockbroking and financial advisory industry. Eligible applicants would typically provide ancilliary services to the industry such as education, legal, accounting, technology, training, research and information services.

SAFAA's Profession Committee and its Board of Directors approve all membership applications.
